Art Sostenible Mediterrani presents a selection of works by sixteen artists from Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, created from natural elements and reused materials. The exhibition includes various artistic techniques such as sculpture, textile art, painting and installation, and highlights the transformative power of art to raise collective awareness through creativity.

A collection of artworks made from recovered plastics and fabrics, fishing nets and ropes, microplastics and other waste. These creations give a second life to objects and materials that would otherwise be discarded, transforming them into pieces with renewed value and meaning. A body of work that expresses a clear commitment to environmental preservation, showcasing the beauty and potential of materials often considered waste.

In addition, there are pieces made with elements directly recovered from nature and the sea, such as wood, stones, roots, sea sponges or posidonia, which are turned into works of poetic beauty, advocating respect for nature and endowing them with new meaning.

The main goal of Art Sostenible Mediterrani is to give a voice to artists who are committed to change towards a more sustainable way of life and who establish a respectful dialogue with their environment. Through this exhibition, which combines creativity and commitment, the public is invited to reflect and to take part in building a more sustainable and conscious future.

This exhibition is an initiative promoted by the Fundació Baleària, in collaboration with the Drap-Art Festival —International Festival of Sustainable Art of Catalonia— and the Art amb B Association.

We are excited to announce the opening of the call for the Drap-Art’25 Market in Plaça Reial, a space that celebrates sustainable creativity and offers a unique opportunity to exhibit and sell original works made with recycled materials.

Basis of the call:

Being a member of Drap-Art:

• Participation in the call requires having up to date the membership fee of 2025 of Drap-Art.
• Join Drap-Art

Evaluation criteria:

• The products must be made with recycled materials.
• Products created with sustainable materials will also be valued.
• Handcrafted products that have not been made with recycled materials, will only be accepted in exceptional cases, such as requests.
• Products must be creative and artistic, original and innovative and have a good finish.

Diversity in the offer:

• The most outstanding proposals of the same type of product will be selected to guarantee a varied offer.

Commitments:

• Compulsory attendance every Saturday of the season.
• Notification at least one week in advance in cases of unjustified absence, for a greater cause, such as getting sick.
• Planned absences must be notified at the time of registration or at least 2 months in advance.
• Last minute absences, at least one week in advance.
• In cases of absence due to a major cause, such as illness, Drap-Art also undertakes to look for substitutes, but if no substitutes are found or there is an unexcused absence, the same stand fee must be paid.

Responsibility and diligence:

• Delivery of the documentation required to register the holders.
• Optune supply of the necessary material for the promotion of the market and its exhibitors, especially quality photographs of the products.
• Strict compliance with payment deadlines.

Path evaluation:

• Antiquity as a partner of Drap-Art and participation in the market.
• Active involvement in the association and its projects.
• Identification with the values of Drap-Art.
• Responsibility and cooperative spirit.

2024 is coming to an end and we are closing a fabulous year full of activities at Drap-Art.

We are very proud to announce that our president, Tanja Grass, has been selected as a new ambassador of the Third Paradise, a project focused on social change towards a more sustainable world through art, created by the pioneer of environmental art, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and promoted by Cittadellarte – Pistoletto Foundation.

From 21 November to 21 December we held the 28^th edition of the Drap-Art International Festival of Sustainable Art of Catalonia.

The finishing touch was the closing party in the Plaza de la Mercè in Barcelona, with the celebration of the Rebirth Day of the Third Paradise, with a big parade, performances, concerts and a demonstration for world peace, human empowerment and nature.

Recycling Art Market of Sustainable Consumption

We are also very happy to have finished the season of the Recycling Art Market of Sustainable Consumption, which ran from the first Saturday of March until the last Saturday of December, and has presented the work of original recycling artists and artisans, generating a weekly sustainable consumption circuit.

A classic weekend market of artistic recycling in Barcelona’s Plaza Real, visited by countless upcycling enthusiasts from all corners of the planet.

We remind you that during the months of January and February the Market and its artists take a break to work on their new proposals for the ‘25 season.

Exhibitions

During this year that is now coming to an end, we have also held exhibitions at Casa Seat in Barcelona, at the Arenas shopping mall in Barcelona and co-produced the Balearic art fair Tardor d’Art in Formentera, all of them successful exhibitions and activities with very good results, great audience and better expectations for the new year that is about to begin.

Miskovic, born in Barcelona and with Argentine roots, is a passionate photographer and DJ who combines rhythms such as Afro house, melodic techno and indie dance. LA MAGA (LIVE SHOW)

Under the heading Drap-Art Indoors, this year the Festival’s program includes indoor spaces, such as Base Elements Urban Art Gallery, Espai del Borsí, Test Gallery, Sala Perill, la Bien Cuadrado and the Drap-Art Gallery itself, which together exhibit more than a hundred works. Projects by a total of 60 artists, including guests, selected by public call and a selection of artists from the Balearic Islands, which will show the richness and diversity of the current trends in urban, contemporary and sustainable art, both in our country and in Europe and the rest of the world.

Among the works that make up the rich and creative artistic program of the Festival Drap-Art’24, the public will be able to reflect on striking performative interventions such as “Masa de elecciones”. A work by the Colombian Andrea Verbel Vanegas, a visual artist professionally focused on costume direction, and who, under her pseudonym Garbage Guerrillera, in 2018, intervened in the public space of the German city of Augsburg with the parade of a dress weighing 20 kg that she embroidered for two months, using plastic, cardboard and electronic waste. Or contemplate poetic proposals such as the project of the London artist Errol Sari, based in Barcelona, who from his studio Mono 30, in the Poble-Sec neighbourhood, reuses cans found on the beach of Barcelona and plastic caps brought to him by neighbors to make his pieces.

Drap-Art Outdoors, meanwhile, brings together the open-air actions of the Festival concerning sustainability in all its spheres -artistic, social and environmental-, in different enclaves of the public space of the Gothic Quarter. One of the highlights of the many activities will be the inaugural concerts in Plaza del Rey, on Saturday 23 November, and the Artistic Recycling and Sustainable Consumption Market that will take place every Saturday during the Festival period in Plaza Real.

This program, together with the exhibition route, makes Drap-Art’24 an immersive and participatory sustainable art circuit, which for a month will turn the center of Barcelona into a meeting point for artists, art lovers, new audiences, neighbors and local entities, as well as contributing to the sustainable and intercultural urban transformation of the city. In this 28th edition, the Drap-Art association, organizer of the event, wants to pay special attention to the current global socio-political context where war conflicts are taking center stage.

“We are approaching our 30th anniversary and want to reflect on the evolution of activism in the field of art and sustainability in these almost three decades of history. There is no sustainability without peace. We need a return to humanist values to achieve true sustainability in all aspects,” assures Tanja Grass, director of the Festival and of the association, since its inception.

For this reason, on Saturday, December 21, coinciding with the celebration of the Rebirth Day, the Third Paradise project of the pioneer of environmental art and main representative of Arte Povera, Michelangelo Pistoletto and his organization Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, Drap-Art, has organized within the framework of the Festival, a playful-festive massive “Demonstration-Procession-Parade for Universal Peace and Human Empowerment”. The rally will include the participation of renowned international artists such as Eddy Ekete, Little Shilpa, and national artists such as Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca, and will end with the collective creation of a giant heart made by the children of the schools of Ciutat Vella. This program, together with the exhibition route, will make Drap-Art’24 an immersive sustainable art circuit open to the general public.
