Art activity for World Oceans Day in Sitges

Art activity for World Oceans Day in Sitges

Sunday 8 June 2025 at the Centre d’Estudis del Mar

To mark World Oceans Day, we are hosting a collective art activity for families and participants of all ages, taking place on Sunday 8 June 2025, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the Centre d’Estudis del Mar in Sitges (Passeig Marítim, 72).

Together, we will co-create a collective artwork using materials and waste collected from the beaches of Sitges during the European Day for the Prevention of Waste in Natural Spaces held on 11 May.

With this initiative, we aim to raise awareness of one of today’s most urgent environmental challenges: plastic pollution in the oceans, which severely threatens marine biodiversity and coastal ecosystems. It is estimated that between 80 and 200 million tonnes of plastic currently float in the world’s oceans, with long-lasting impacts throughout the food chain.

The resulting artwork will be showcased in the upcoming edition of Sitges ReciclArt. This activity is also part of the Edunauta Passport project, promoted by the Sitges City Council, which supports equal access to educational opportunities outside the school environment.
