Drap-Art’21 is here!
In this very special edition of Drap-Art’s 25th birthday, in addition to the usual open call, Drap-Art includes two curated exhibitions and an exhibition by the Villa del Arte Gallery. One of them is dedicated to pioneers of sustainable art such as HA Schult and Citadellarte – Fundazione Pistoletto, some of them already deceased, such as Richard Hambleton aka Shadowman (a master of the urban of the caliber of Basquiat), and Bigas Luna, Rafael Bartolozzi and Lesley Yendell, to whom we pay tribute in the In Memoriam section.
The exhibition of artists from the Drap-Art call, which is the essence of this Festival that, since 1996, year after year unveils new talents working in the field of sustainable art. Artists who reuse materials in their works because they do not want to continue consuming and spending new materials, when the world is already full of discarded materials and who are concerned about causing a change of course to avoid the self-destruction of the human being, of which we should all take example and pretty fast.
This year the show has been divided into two, locating fine artists in El Borsí and designers and artists with more artisanal techniques in Artesania Catalunya. In addition, there are some invited artists with a long history in this field, in the two exhibitions.
We also wanted to include another curated exhibition dedicated to the Balearic Islands. Located in the Sala Perill, Drap-Art Islas is dedicated to 8 artists, who work with recycled materials and use art as a tool for environmental awareness. The transformation of the islands from virgin paradises to fragile ecosystems punished by tourist overexploitation has led civil society and the artists who live there to activism to conserve nature. Here we show works by some of these artists from Formentera (Anna Ametller, Sol Courreges Boné, Teresa Matilla and Jorge Traverso), Menorca (3DKE, Enric Servera and Mallorca (Laura Marte and Marcos Vidal). Last but not least, we once again have the participation of Villa del Arte Galleries with Miquel Aparici and Ingravidesa Alliance in calle de la Palla 10 and Galeria N2 with the cession of works by Teresa Gancedo and Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada.
This Saturday, November 20, we celebrated the inauguration of the festival in Plaça Reial, with live painting by AccCrew from 6:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. a musical program that will be opened by The NOse + NI DEU NI DOORS, a formation by Steven FoRster, a founding member who is already a classic of Drap-Art. He will be followed by the Austrian performer and musician Christina Hunt Akron, with the Ebriphon Ship Simphony, a composition made from the sounds of an old cargo ship.
The festival also has guided tours by Guiding Architects that, apart from the exhibitions, will show us the architectural-artistic heritage of the neighborhood, every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You can reserve at the following Link
