Artist of the Month– Valentina Brostean

Come to our next inauguration and take the opportunity to meet Valentina Brostean, Artist of the Month of June, in our gallery and enjoy its very special artistic vibrations.

After spending more than a decade in Turin (Italy), he now resides in Barcelona (Spain). Brostean holds a degree in Graphic Design and a master’s degree in Illustration from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Novi Sad University. Brostean is a multidisciplinary visual artist with more than 15 years of experience in the creative world, working with both traditional and digital media.

His daring and colorful style, often described as “new contemporary figuration”, is specific to his use of brave and unexpected compositions, a daring color palette and a unique and striking imagery. In his personal work, he has been strongly inspired by all aspects of human nature, exploring subconscious emotional states, dreams, reality and surrealism. He has developed his own very personal technique and style, the result of a perpetual journey, a constant search for identity and complexity of meanings.

Recognized as one of the emerging contemporary artists appreciated by international clients, her work has been selected by Armani Exchange, The Washington Post, Il Corriere Della Sera, Bicycle USA and Kabinet Brewery, among many others.

NOMADS – Mask sculptures and ready-mades

“Since I arrived in Barcelona, I have become obsessed with objects of all kinds that people throw into the garbage daily, as well as the human relationship with these abandoned objects. “The trash of some are the treasures of others.”.

I collected and reused discarded objects as basic building material to create ready-made artwork. The alchemistic process was launched, when these objects began to have their faces and tell their story, revealing my internal transition and my metamorphosis!

I was looking for old suitcases, clothes, boxes, wooden panels, photos or letters that “rerenased” under my hands, also using glue, varnish, acrylic and watercolours. I called these objects and paintings “Nòmades”. Do they look at us on these faces? nomads – humans in transformation.

Open Call for Artists for Drap-Art’24 – Until 26th July

“War, like dinosaurs, must disappear”

Orson Wells puts this phrase in the mouth of the protagonist of the 1935 film Things to Come. This film addresses the need for civilised societies to guarantee peace and to find a balance between technology and nature.

At the present time of the proliferation of war conflicts and even in the face of the threat of a world war, Drap-Art echoes this statement: our planet can only be sustainable if instead of conflict, peace and love are promoted, and if technology and science are put at the service of human beings and nature, for their development and regeneration.

“We are approaching our 30th anniversary and we want to reflect on the evolution of activism in the field of art and sustainability in these almost three decades of festival history. There is no sustainability without peace. We need a return to humanist values to achieve true sustainability in all aspects”, says Tanja Grass, director of the festival and the Drap-Art association since its inception.

This new edition of Drap-Art Al Gòtic! International Festival of Sustainable Art of Catalonia will be held from November 21 to December 21, 2024. The exhibition of artists selected for the public call will be held at Mucha Fibra Escola Taller, in Carrer d’en Copons 3. The call is now open, and artists are invited to present their projects until July 26. The jury will be formed by Joan Abelló, Betty Bigas, Josep Anton Carulla, Margarita Farran and Tanja Grass.

For a month, the Festival programmed in the central Gothic Quarter of Barcelona an exhibition route with 60 artists (invited and selected by public call, as well as a selection of artists from the Balearic Islands) with more than 100 works of art, in galleries and unique buildings of the city (Test Gallery, Base Elements Urban Art Gallery, the space of the Borsí platform, etc.) with the aim of reclaiming art through its use

Accompaniing the exhibitions, Drap-Art organizes numerous activities in the public space around sustainability in all its fields: artistic, social and environmental. One of the highlights will be the opening concerts of the Plaza del Rey, on Saturday 23 November and the Market for Artistic Recycling and Sustainable Consumption every Saturday in the Plaza Real. The objective is to create a complete and immersive sustainable route, in which the public can enjoy the exhibitions and be part of the festival in a participatory way.

Drap-Art has been collaborating for three years with the project of the Third Paradise of the pioneer of environmental art and main representative of Arte Povera, Michelangelo Pistoletto and his organization Cittadellarte – Fondazione Pistoletto, which celebrates Rebirth Day worldwide, on December 21, with the winter solstice. This year, Drap-Art wants to commemorate it with a massive “Manifestació-Processó-Desfilada lúdic-festiva per la Pau Universal i l’APODERament Humà”, with the participation of renowned international artists such as Eddy Ekete (https://eddyeketeblog.wordpress.com), Little Shilpa (http://www.littleshilpa.com), and nationals, such as Marcellí Antúnez Roca (https://www.marceliantunez.com), which will end up in Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona with the collective creation of a giant choir made by the children of the schools of Ciutat Vella, under the supervision of action artist HA Schult (https://www.haschult.de), another great environmental art.
